One more post today! Here are my three thumbnails for my final layout project. The first one was my original idea, with the second being based on #1 and the third is another location completely. All three are from my fantasy series 'Copperbane' and they are respectively:
#1. A trail leading up to the Fletch family stronghold, better known as Copperbane as it sits on the Copperbane Plateau in northern Escavia.
#2. Outside the main (& only known) gates of Copperbane. Of course there's secret ones.
#3. Further north in the Copperbane Mountains of Escavia is the town of Outpost, the biggest human settlement in the high north. In the shadow of Mt. Vodka (yes it's seriously called that - humans give really stupid names to stuff sometimes, with the best example being the Grand Tetons in the USA which were named by a bunch of horny frenchmen. 'Grand Tetons' means literally 'Grand Breasts' in french.) the little town of Outpost struggles to survive in a land that is locked in snow for most of the year.
#1 & 3 are my favourites. #1 is more intricate, but #3 has a nice composition.
These layouts really resonate with my soul. If there's any place in the world which calls to my spirit, it's definately the high peaks of the mountains and their pristine lakes and alpine meadows. It's a land of brilliant colour, of cold stone and melting ice, cascading into pools of purest aquamarine. Even though I don't live there, it has and will always be my true home. When that horrible (hopefully far flung future) day comes when I leave this life for another, it's in the mountains that I'd like my ashes to go.
The mountains are simply my home. It's like that song in Dreamwork's SPIRIT; Stallion of the Cimarron - "..I hear the wind call my name, a sound which leads me home again..."
It actually gets me down living so close to the ocean where I am. There's nothing for me here spiritually. It's not my place. Always, there's a pull for me, calling me back to the Rockies, that land of ice and stone in the east, where wolves and elk and bear run free. Before I moved here, I had a fascination with the sea, but I got my fill of it pretty fast. The west coast's nice, but it just doesn't compare with my peaks and moraines.
The Copperbane Mountains and Plateau are sort of my version of the Rockies in my world. To me, it represents ultimate freedom, a heaven where life is simple. That's why I wanted to make my final layout in this region of Rimer's map. I simply adore it and there's nowhere else on Rimer that I love to write about quite so much. It's simply paradise.
Thanks for looking!
